Advertising Jobs

How much should you ask for?
This is
probably the most fundamental question with all advertising jobs - what you
should sensibly expect to be paid in the advertising business. The answer to this is actually relatively
simple to calculate in many cases.
Here's a list of jobs and the average pay:
Work Experience / Placement: Do not expect to be paid.
Junior Creative: £12,000 p.a.
Creative: £17,000 p.a.
Senior Creative: £25,000 p.a.
Creative Director: £40,000 p.a.
Junior Account Exec: £12,000 p.a.
Account Exec: £22,000 p.a.
Senior Account Exec: £35,000 p.a.
Account Director: £40,000 p.a.
The above examples are just a guide and each job and firm will have their own
pay structure. The criteria for how much is paid basically depends on two
factors:
1. Number of people competing for the job.
2. The lowest amount an agency can pay without compromising the quality and
synergy of the workforce.
Because the advertising business is a relatively small sector and has a
disproportionately high number of people wishing to enter the industry, pay is
often low in the early phase of any advertising career. It is also worth noting
that many people leave the advertising business in their 30s - the industry
mostly employs younger people.
